As some employees return to work and others continue to work from home, organizations are establishing new norms and standards for hybrid workplaces. Employees on some teams at JPMorgan Chase & Co. can schedule work-from-home days, but not on Mondays or Fridays. Thursdays are proving to be the most popular in-office day at Salesforce.com Inc.’s reopened offices, causing significant demand for meeting rooms and collaboration spaces as well as driving the company to reassess its office design.
After months of dialogue, major employers that include Humana Inc. in Louisville, Ky., to Nike Inc. near Portland, Ore., have announced plans to return to corporate buildings after Labor Day, relaxing capacity restrictions in some cases while also promising employees some degree of workplace flexibility. Covid-19 isn’t the only thing that has an impact on workplaces. Many executives are concerned about a brain drain from their organisations. According to company directors, human resource managers, and recruiters, several organisations that are hiring report they can’t find skilled employees willing to come into an office five days a week. This year, OnSolve LLC, a software firm based in Alpharetta, Georgia, is hiring for around 90 new roles. Although CEO Mark Herrington is keen for office life to return to normal, a number of applicants, particularly those in technical and engineering positions, have insisted on the ability to work from home at least part of the time.
“It’s almost become a prerequisite if you’re seeking for top talent,” she says “Mr Herrington expresses his thoughts. “Those people are basically saying, ‘Hey, if I can’t work in a hybrid setting, I’m probably not going to be interested. According to studies, most employees seek some level of flexibility in their work environment. Accenture PLC’s upcoming poll of 9,000 workers indicated that 83 per cent of respondents thought a hybrid workplace was ideal, implying that businesses must figure out the new work norms quickly.
